Located in Arlington, VA, Kogaion Academy prides itself as an exceptional martial arts academy. Our curriculum has something for everyone, regardless of experience, age or gender. Here, we focus on the art and sport of Brazilian jiu-jitsu and judo. We ensure that our students grow stronger and faster while developing acute self-defense skills in a safe and fun environment.

The meaning of “Kogaion” and our logo

Kogaion (pronounced koh-gai-ahn) is an ancient Romanian term for sacred mountain. It was the spiritual center for the Tracian people, although its exact location still remains a mystery today.

The academy’s logo colors represent the blue of the sky and oceans of our planet in perpetual motion, while yellow alludes to light and energy. The dracon, a mythical creature with wolf head and snake body, was the standard insignia of Dacian troops. The root of the word "dracon" means "to watch" or "to guard with a sharp eye".

The spiral and yin yang are motifs found in ancient Cucuteni and Chinese ceramics. They represent continuous movement, creativity, and evolution, which are also grounding philosophies of Kogaion Academy. The motto of the academy is "running with the wolves." Legend has it that Dacian warriors could turn into wolves, while some say that wolves were among them in the battlefield.
